Bangkok's Constitutional Court approves three electoral laws

BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) - The Constitutional Court here approved on Monday three organic laws on Thailand's electoral reform needed for the Election Commission (EC) to organise the coming general election.
The Constitutional Court ruled unanimously that the three laws, which were previously passed by the Thai Parliament, comply with the Thai Charter. The top court's verdict extinguished remaining skepticism and paved the way for a House dissolution, which is expected to be announced by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva shortly.
The three organic laws, which had been previously submitted by Thailand's House Speaker Chai Chidchob for final review, as required by the country's 2007 Constitution, covered changes in the election of Thai lawmakers in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the setting up of Thai political parties and the revised mandate of the EC to the Constitutional Court. The three electoral laws will next be promulgated once they have been published in the Royal Gazette. (TNA)
