Thailand hosts meeting on global food security

CHIANG MAI, May 9 (TNA) - The Thai Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Theera Wongsamut opened the ASEM High-Level Conference on Food Security in Chiang Mai province on Monday, drawing over 150 high-level agricultural and trade officials from over 20 countries from the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) framework.

The conference results from the Declaration of Helsinki, which identifies Thailand as a leading country on food and energy security.

The conference was aimed at allowing ASEM member states to exchange their views and propose concrete cooperation for food security. Three important topics on its agenda include actions needed to ensure food security at national, regional and global levels; cooperation to guarantee access to food to people worldwide; and measures for sustainable food security.
