'Iran enlightening Omani public opinion on Bahrain crisis'

TEHRAN, May 9 (MNA) -- The Iranian ambassador to Oman has said that the Iranian Embassy in Muscat has taken several measures to enlighten the Omani public opinion about the atrocities being committed in Bahrain.

“We have informed Omani officials that Iran’s support for the Bahraini people is in line with its support of the demands of the people in certain other countries including Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya,” Ambassador Hossein Noushabadi told the Mehr News Agency.

So far, two press conferences have been held in Oman, in which the reporters were briefed about Iran’s stance on the developments taking place in the region, Noushabadi stated.

He added, “We believe that the demand of regional nations, who are expressing their demands through peaceful means, should be responded to, and violence should not be used against the people.”

Commenting on Oman’s stance toward regional developments, Noushabadi said, “Oman is a member of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, and its stance is concordant with the position adopted by other members.”

However, Oman has taken a more balanced and rational position on these developments compared to other members of the PGCC, he added.

In addition, Omani officials have been making efforts to defuse the tension created between Iran and the PGCC, the ambassador noted.

He also said, “Oman has always been seeking (to promote) peace and security in the region.”
