Bahrainis’ demands should be responded to properly, Iran tells UAE

TEHRAN, May 9 (MNA) -- Bahraini officials should respond to the people’s demands in an appropriate way, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told UAE Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

The people of Bahrain have expressed their demands through peaceful means and their demands must be responded to properly, Salehi stated.

He added that the deployment of foreign troops in Bahrain and their interference in the affairs of the country have complicated the issues, and the continuation of this situation will only aggravate the crisis.

The UAE prime minister said that outsiders are seeking to suggest that there is discord between Shia and Sunni Muslims, but that is not the case.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the UAE official said that Tehran and Abu Dhabi share common concerns and interests.

He also expressed support for Iran’s nuclear program, which is meant for peaceful purposes.

The UAE prime minister added that the sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran will harm the interests of the region.
