Russia to observe minute of silence for fallen warriors
MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia will observe a minute of silence
at 7 p.m. Moscow time on Monday for the warriors, who perished in the
battles with the Nazi troops.
All federal and digital television channels and radio stations will
interrupt their programs at 7.55 p.m. Moscow time in memory about the feat
of people in the Great Patriotic War. The minute of silence will be
counted down after the traditional Kremlin Chimes.
The minute of silence "To the Fair Memory of the Fallen in the Great
Patriotic War" is one of the most important festive and mourning rituals
of Victory Day since 1965.
The Soviet Union suffered the largest losses in the Second World War.
According to official reports, the Soviet Union, which made a major
contribution in the routing of the Nazism, lost 26.6 million people. The
irrecoverable losses of the Red Army reached 8,660,400 people.
