20,000 servicemen to participate in military parade on Red Square
MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) -- A military parade on the occasion of the
66th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War
(1941-1945) will be mounted on the Red Square on Monday. About 20,000
soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces and other law enforcement
agencies will participate in the most large-scale parade in modern Russian
history.
The parade trainings on the firing range in Alabino outside Moscow and
three nighttime trainings and a general rehearsal on the Red Square
preceded this event.
Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov will review the military
parade. Assistant Chief of the Russian General Staff Col. Gen. Valery
Gerasimov will command the parade. The parade will consist of infantry,
mechanized and aircraft stages.
The following command will be voiced at 10 a.m. Moscow time on the
main Russian square, "Parade! Attention to the national flag of the
Russian Federation and the Banner of Victory!" A squadron of drummers from
the Military University of the Defence Ministry will open the parade. The
banner-carrying groups with the National Flag of the Russian Federation,
the Banner of Victory and the Banner of the Armed Forces, the copies of
the standards of the war fronts and the combat banners of glorious
military units will follow the drummers.
The parade units of the Russian troops and units of the power-wielding
structures will march on the Red Square. The columns of educators and
students of the military academies, universities, institutes and colleges,
airborne paratroopers, marines, servicemen of the Interior Troops and
units of the Western Military District will march on the square.
Then the military hardware will pass on the Red Square. The Tigr
armored vehicles will be the first with the BTR-80 armored personnel
carriers, the T-90 tanks, tractor trucks and self-propelled artillery
mounts to follow them on the square. The track military hardware will have
asphalt-protecting chains on. Mobile missile systems Topol-M, eight launch
vehicles of an air defence missile system S-400 Triumf, eight newest air
defence missile and gun systems Pantsir-1, launch vehicles of the missile
system Iskander-M, multiple launch fire systems Smerch, air defence
missile systems Buk-M2 and other best models of military hardware will
pass in the mechanized column. A total of 106 pieces of military hardware
will participate in the parade.
The combat vehicles will pass in two columns right from the Historical
Museum, and after the Red Square will enter the Vasilyevsky Spusk square,
will turn right on the embankment of the Moskva River to drive back on the
Hodynskoye Field.
Five helicopter gunships Mi-8 will fly in the common line over the Red
Square, carrying the flags of the Russian Federation, the Defence
Ministry, the Ground Troops, the Airborne Troops and the Navy.
