MOSCOW, May 9 (Itar-Tass) -- A famous Russian essay writer, journalist
and novelist Arkady Vaksberg died at the Sklifosovsky First Aid Clinic
after a heavy and long disease, Russian presidential envoy for
international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi told Itar-Tass on
Sunday.
Arkady Iosifovich Vaksberg was born on November 11, 1927. His literary
career "was linked with the Literaturnaia Gazeta weekly, because he worked
as the Paris correspondent of the edition until his last breath. The
limelight of the Literaturnaia Gazeta from the sixties to the eighties of
the previous century "was linked with his perfect and sharp-tongued
essays, which dwelt on the acutest problems in the Soviet society."
Vaksberg has written many essays and literary surveys about
outstanding Soviet writers, including Maxim Gorky and Vladimir Mayakovsky.
"One of the most remarkable Russian essayists in the twentieth century
passed away," Shvydkoi underlined.
