TWO PRESIDENTS HAVE PHONE TALK
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Tsakhia Elbegdorj and his Russian counterpart Mr. Dmitry Medvedev talked on the phone May 7.
Mr. Elbegdorj has conveyed his greetings to the President Medvedev on the occasion of the Great Victory Day which is occurring May 9 and congratulated him with the three-year anniversary of his assuming office by taking an oath.
Mr. Medvedev has noted that the people of the Russian Federation always remember the contribution and the assistance of the people of Mongolia for the Great Victory. He has highlighted that the 90th historic anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Russian Federation is occurring this year.
Then the dignitaries exchanged views on means to intensify the bilateral economic and trade ties, for example, mentioning that 20 years ago 90 percent of Mongolia's export used to go to Russian market, nowadays, in 2010 in particular, standing at three percent. The Presidents have both agreed with the necessaty to take thorough measures able to have the economic and trade relations got out of a stagnation, to reduce the trade deficit of Mongolia. The two have said some directions would be given to their Governments on these matters.
The Presidents also have touched upon such matters as changing 1949 contract on the establishment of Ulaanbaatar Railway joint cooperative to adapt it to current conditions and requirements, and establishing an agreement on railway tariffs for transit through the Russian Federation territory.
The sides have agreed to organize in near future a meeting of chairmen of the joint commission between the Governments of Mongolia and the Russian Federation to intensify talks.
