A new greeting to Tehran Times readers

TEHRAN, May 8 (MNA) -- Thirty two years ago, the Tehran Times was born as Iran’s first English language newspaper after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

In those days, Tehran was grieving the loss of a great teacher of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari. In the first issue of the newspaper, there were photos of the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, and Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari, and now, after 32 years, the Tehran Times continues the job based on the axis which was created by Imam Khomeini and his followers, like Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Ayatollah Motahhari, and Ayatollah Beheshti.

May 5 was the 32nd anniversary of the Tehran Times, and now our readers can enjoy reading it in a new arrangement and layout which differs from the layout of the past.

But a few points must be taken into consideration in this new episode:

(1) Generating content and articles in line with the ideals and policy of the Islamic Revolution is our main priority. The staff and writers of the Tehran Times are working at a place where every day they see the words of the late Ayatollah Mohammad Hossein Beheshti: “The Tehran Times… must be a loud voice of the Islamic Revolution and the loudspeaker of the oppressed and downtrodden people of the world.”

These words of the late Ayatollah Beheshti can be regarded as our main policy and approach in terms of news coverage and analysis. And given the current situation of the Middle East and the world, this responsibility becomes even heavier.

(2) Coverage of developments in Iran and the international situation must be based on an independent perspective and outlook and we must resist the hegemony of the dominant media outlets, which are seeking to serve Western interests. The anti-Western media outlets must be committed to independent coverage of developments and news, but at the same time they should not take a neutral position toward international issues.

(3) Providing a forum for the exchange of opinions and views and conveying the messages of experts and scholars are some of the primary goals of the media. Providing in-depth analysis and post-incident coverage is the only legacy that newspapers still have to rely on in their competition with the new electronic media outlets. Therefore, it would be a great pleasure for the staff of the Tehran Times to receive the comments and views of Iranian and foreign experts on important issues and developments.

(4) The Tehran Times has always been looking for an opportunity to publish the newspaper outside Iran, but this goal has not been realized yet. We wish to expand our audience outside of Iran, and the possibility of publishing the newspaper in other countries may help us in this regard. Of course, the Tehran Times website has filled the gap a little bit.

(5) A media outlet can be successful when there is ever-expanding two-way communication and interaction with the audience. Therefore, your views and feedback can be very helpful for our efforts to improve our work. Our readers are not only regarded as customers. We also view them as our advisors, so you can help us by sending us your views and comments.

When you stand beside us, the peaks of success do not seem so distant. Best wishes to all.
