RI TO INTENSIFY TRADE WITH GUANGDONG PROVINCE

Jakarta, Sept. 4 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has set a target to intensify trade ties with Guangdong Province, because the Chinese province is a potential market for Indonesian products, according to presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal.

Djalal made the statement in a press conference at the Presidential Office, here on Thursday, after accompanying the President in receiving a delegation from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) led by Wan Yan, a member of the CCP politburo concurrently secretary of Guangdong's CCP Central Committee.

"The President in the meeting stated that the target of trade between Indonesia and China could reach 30 billion US dollars in 2010. Up to July 2008, the trade value between the two countries has reached 19 billion US dollars," Djalal said.

The Head of State believed that the target could be reached even before 2010 because the two countries' trade value by the end of 2008 was estimated to reach 28 billion US dollars or 29 billion US dollars.

"In the meeting the Head of State also invited investors from Guangdong to invest their money in the sectors of electricity, agriculture, food, infrastructures and trade," he said.

The trade value between Indonesia and Guangdong currently was around US$5.1 billion.

The President, according to Djalal, had assigned Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu to increase the trade value to US$10 billion in the next three years.

"Meanwhile, Mr. Wan Yan has expressed his commitment to increasing import of electronic products from Indonesia," Djalal said.

The Chinese delegation was accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Zhang Qiyue in the meeting with Yudhoyono, who was flanked by Indonesian ambassador to China Sudrajat.

In the meeting, President Yudhoyono also touched the issue on LNG Tangguh sale to Fujian Province, according to Djalal.

The President said Indonesia still wanted to continue cooperation in LNG sale to Fujian, but because of a situation change, the country also wanted a price adjustment, he said.

Yudhoyono explained that Vice President M Jusuf Kalla had met with the Chinese Vice President to discuss the matter.

Among those present in the meeting were Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Nur Hassan Wirajuda, Coordinating Minister for political, legal, and security affairs Widodo AS, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa and Minister/Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

The Chinese delegation included Fu Lang of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Liu Yupu of the Guangdong CCP.

They visited Indonesia to attend a conference on China and Indonesia Trade held here this week.

China's delegation in the conference comprises 1,200 people, including 400 businessmen.
