Laos to swap ASEAN chair with Myanmar: Thai media
BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) - A Local media group reported on Friday that Laos has agreed to swap years with Myanmar for the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) so that it will hold the position in 2014, and Myanmar will take it in 2015.
The Thai media report quoted Laotian officials as saying at the ASEAN senior officials meeting in Jakarta this week that Vientiane would not mind switching the rotating ASEAN chair with Myanmar, following Cambodia and Brunei taking the ASEAN chairmanship in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Myanmar has informed the ASEAN Secretariat that it will be ready to take the position of ASEAN chair in 2015, rather than 2014. (TNA)
