RONDONUWU'S BODY ARRIVES IN MANADO

Manadao, Sept 4 (ANTARA) - The body of Nguni Toka Rondonuwu (31), an Indonesian national who was killed in a Spanair crash in Madrid last August, arrived at Sam Ratulangi airport here on Thursday from Jakarta.

The body arrived in Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta from Madrid, Spain, on Wednesday afternoon and was flown on Garuda Indonesia GA600 to Manado on Thursday morning.

Members of Rodonuwu family were unable to hold their tears as Nguni's coffin was discharged from Garuda jet and put into a police ambulance at Sam Ratulangi airport.

The body was then transported to Tondano Timur subdistrict in Minahasa for burial on Saturday, September 6, 2008.

Nguni Toka Rondonuwu, a crew member of a cruiser in Canary Islands, was one of 153 fatalities in a Spanair crash on August 20, 2008 in Madrid, Spain.

The Spanish jet heading for the Canary Islands crashed on takeoff and burst into flames at Madrid airport, killing 153 people on board.

According to a Reuters report, smoke billowed up near Terminal Four from the remains of Spanair's Flight JK5022, an MD-82 JET bound for Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, which broke into pieces in an accident which left 19 survivors.

The 15-year-old plane, with 166 passengers and nine crew, shot off the runway at 2:45 p.m. local time (1345 GMT).
