Patients suffer as NICH faces medicine shortage
Karachi, May 05, 2011 (PPI): National Institute of Child Health (NICH), the biggest children hospital of Karachi is facing severe shortage of medicines, leaving no option for patients but to buy medicine from private medical stores.
Parents of some children admitted in the National Institute Of Child Health told PPI said that they are asked by doctors to buy different type of medicines, drips and syringes from the private medical stores. Ghey say the hospital staff claims they were out of stock of various medicines.
Some attendants complained about the mismanagement in the hospital, saying doctors to not pay proper attention to poor patients.
Director NICH Professor Jamal, when contacted, agreed there was shortage of medicine in hospital, adding there are chances to get budget for medicines next month.
To a query he said almost 50% budget gets consumed on buying oxygen, while the remaining amount spent to provide other medical facilities to patients.
He said that after the allocation of coming budget the shortage of medicine will be met with.
