Thai PM to seek royal command for early May dissolution

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has affirmed he will submit a royal decree on House dissolution to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for royal approval on Friday, before he departs for Jakarta to attend the two-day ASEAN summit and related meetings.

Abhisit said he will give an interview to reporters regarding his planned dissolution after the royal decree is submitted to the King, but before his departure for the Indonesian capital.

The Thai premier said that he will observe his promise to seek cabinet disbanding within the first week of May 2011, and that an official timeframe for holding the country's next general election in mid-2011 will remain intact even if there is some delay for his announcement of the dissolution.

According to Premier Abhisit, His Majesty the King has been recovering well after undergoing a minor operation last Monday night and reportedly approved the appointment of Thailand's new Senate speaker in a royal command on Wednesday. (TNA)
