Chiang Mai issues thunderstorm warning

CHIANG MAI, May 5 (TNA) - Deputy Chiang Mai Governor Chuchart Keelapaeng revealed weather forecasts by the Northern Meteorological Center warning that scattered thunderstorms are expected in Chiang Mai.

According the weather report, the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is moving towards Thailand, which is likely to bring some strong wind and thunderstorms to the country’s northern province.

Chuchart said he has been in contact with all high risk areas including districts of Fang, Mae Ai, Chai Prakan, Wiang Haeng, Chiang Dao, Omkoi, Mae Chaem, and Galyani Vadhana, warning them of possible severe weather condition.

The Deputy Governor also said he has instructed all District Offices to closely monitor weather situation and keep informing the people. In case of emergency, authorities must evacuate all the people to safe areas. He also noted if a week-long spell of downpour in Chiang Mai persists, the province could be at risk of flooding. (TNA)
