36 specialists, 11 machinery units repairing Sakhalin gas pipeline
VLADIVOSTOK, May 5 (Itar-Tass) - Thirty-six people and 11 machinery
units have been sent on Thursday to repair the damaged Okha -
Komsomolsk-on-Amur gas pipeline in Sakhalin. People are airlifted to the
emergency site by helicopter, the machinery is moving on its own.
Specialists suggest that the damage to the pipeline occurred 63 kilometres
from the village of Pogibi (west coast of Sakhalin). This section of being
surveyed by specialists of Rosneft-Sakhalinmorneftegaz company, the press
service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's (EMERCOM) main
department for the Sakhalin region reported.
On Wednesday evening, the gas pressure in the pipe dropped. According
to specialists, this was caused by the pipeline's rupture. However, at
present no cutting off the gas through the pipeline is needed. This will
be done if need be.
According to available information, there have been no casualties, and
the population of the Sakhalin region is not in danger. The situation is
controlled by the operational headquarters of the EMERCOM main department
for the Sakhalin region.
