Green Industry Project to incorporate 70,000 Thai factories

BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) - Vithoon Simachokedee, permanent secretary of Thailand’s Industry Ministry, chaired a ceremony on Wednesday to launch the Green Industry project, which will cover over 70,000 factories in five years.

The project aims to encourage industrialists to help conserve the environment by continuously improving their production processes and environmental management and taking social responsibilities in their supply chains. The Green Industry project will improve the public image of industries and increase the green gross domestic product of the country.

Besides, to help celebrate the 7th birthday cycle of His Majesty the King this year, the Industry Ministry, its partners, its provincial offices and industrial estates nationwide, are encouraging operators to do their businesses in environmentally friendly ways and using green approaches.

The five levels of green industries can be achieved firstly by having green campaigns to reduce environmental impacts throughout organizations. The second is having green operations for the reduction of environmental impacts. The third is developing green systems that handle environmental issues efficiently, with continuous monitoring, evaluation and improvement, and obtain recognized environmental awards and accreditations. The fourth level is the attainment of a green culture where all members of organizations work completely in environmentally friendly manners. The fifth stage ultimately aims to achieve a network of green supply chains, in which trade partners and allies take part in green industries. (TNA)
