Marathon Cabinet meeting was accountable, says Thai DPM

BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban stated that his Cabinet's last and marathon meeting on Tuesday was legitimately accountable.

Suthep, who is also secretary-general of Thailand's ruling Democrat Party, insisted that his Cabinet needed to carefully consider all the issues put on the agenda, proposed by several ministries, before making decisions, as his caretaker government, after Thailand's House of Representatives is dissolved in the coming days, is constitutionally barred from considering and approving plans and projects funded by the state budget pending a new administration taking office.

The deputy premier noted that his Democrat Party-led coalition government will become a caretaker administration for about three months after the Thai House is dissolved; so, the Cabinet's marathon consideration and approval of the pending projects on Tuesday were aimed at preventing a stall in administrative tasks in the meantime.

Suthep dismissed allegations that his Cabinet's last and overnight meeting, which ended around 02:00am on Wednesday morning, was for "a share of benefits" or "allocating state budget" to ministries for the last time before the House dissolution. (TNA)
