PT DI TO PRODUCE LIGHT CASSA TRANSPORT PLANES IN 2010
Jakarta, Sept 3 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) plans to begin producing light transport Cassa-212 airplanes early in 2010, a company spokesman said.
The Cassa planes would be made under a license from Spain's Cassa aircraft-making company whose factory in Spain is no longer in business, PT DI President Director Budi Santoso said here Wednesday.
"The Cassa factory in Spain is no longer operating and Cassa is shifting its production operations to Indonesia," Santoso said.
He made the statement after signing a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian Navy's headquarters. He said the transfer of Cassa's operations from Spain to Indonesia would take one year's time.
Therefore, the production of the first Cassa aircraft by PT DI could possibly be realized at the end of 2009 or early in 2010, he said.
He said the cooperation would push PT DI to foster its partnership with EADS CASA which had been its partner since it was established.
"The cost of C-212-400 production is more competitive and this aircraft may be more salable in the light turboprop plane market," he added.
PT DI will also promote an Indonesian light transport plane version in ASEAN countries and in the global market.
Santoso said that PT DI would allow its partners in Indonesia and ASEAN to export them or their components to various other countries including those in South America.
PT DI and EADS CASA were also exploring business cooperation on coastal patrols by C-212-400 patrol planes.
Both companies hoped that C-212-400 planes would meet the requirements set by Indonesia and other countries in South East Asia.
Santoso said the aircraft type was suitable for countries which had a topography similar to that of Vietnam, Africa and Thailand.
PT DI and Cassa Spain have previously cooperated in the production of the same airplanes of the Series 200.
