Kamchatka's Kizime volcano spews ash to height of 6 meters
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, May 3 (Itar-Tass) -- The Kizimen volcano on
Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula has spewed ash to an altitude of
six kilometres above sea level. There is no danger for local settlements,
a spokesman for the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the
Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
According to the spokesman, seismic activity at the volcano
intensified at 04:30 a.m. local time (20:30 Moscow time) and reached its
peak at 06:00-08:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday. Now, seismic activity is
gradually decreasing.
The "orange" aviation alert code has been assigned to the volcano,
warning of the danger their volcanic dust and emitted gases pose to
aircraft.
