Weather forecasters in Sulaymaniya: fears of drought in Kurdistan gone after the heavy rains in the region
Sulaymaniya (NINA) – Weather Forecasting Department in Sulaymaniya said fears of a drought in Kurdistan region are totally gone after heavy rains that lashed the region recently.
Dara Hassan Faraj, Director of the Department told NINA that the heavy rains that fell on the region totally finished fears of drought and lack of water resources in Kurdistan.
He explained that the amount of rain that fell in the past few days in Sulaymaniya reached 1544 mm, 595 mm in Halabja, Raniyah 641 mm, 499 mm in Sayed Sadiq, Derbandikhan 8552 mm, 9421 mm in Arbat, Chamchamal 6358 mm, and 9447 mm in Dukan.
Faraj referred to a significant increase in water level in Derbandikhan and Dokan dams, which help in the provision of electric power, in addition to the recovery of the water springs and other water resources in the region, expecting more rain this spring.
