Bangkok on alert after bin Laden’s death: Thai PM

BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Monday the government is closely watching developments following the death of Osama bin Laden, which prompted swift reaction from the world community.

Al-Qaida mastermind Osama bin Laden was killed on Monday by a U.S. land raid north of Pakistan's capital Islamabad, nearly 10 years following the September 11 attacks.

Abhisit acknowledged the reported death of bin Laden, but said Thailand needs to further assess implications from the situation before making any specific reaction. He insisted, however, intelligence authorities have been put on alert, particularly for any symbolic movements.

Security measures at high-risk venues around the country, such as airports, will be reviewed again depending on the overall situation, he added. (TNA)
