EC convenes Thai political party executives

BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) - The Election Commission (EC) has convened executives of all 56 political parties in Thailand to discuss vote campaign rules in the lead-up to the next election.

Election commissioner Prapun Naigowit, who supervises electoral management, said before the meeting the EC would explain rules and regulations to be imposed during vote campaigns and ask political parties to refrain from involving the royal institution in their campaigns, to ensure smooth and peaceful vote campaigns and accept the outcome of the next election.

Separately, election commissioner Sodsri Satayathum said the EC usually calls for reconciliation among candidates but for the upcoming election the commission would seek reconciliation from political parties.

She also warned if political parties remain divided, undesirable incidents might occur again and they will not be beneficial to any party.

Meanwhile, Bhumjaithai Party key figure Chai Chidchob acknowledged that every political party wanted to win the next election, including his own.

Chai, also House Speaker, refused to say however, if his party could form the next government with the Pheu Thai Party, but insisted his party was ready to be either the government or the opposition. (TNA)
