Radiation level in Russia's Far East normal

KHABAROVSK, May 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The radiation level in Russia's Far
East is normal, a source in the Far Eastern regional emergencies center
told Itar-Tass on Monday.
"The monitoring of the radiation situation, which 630 permanent and
mobile radiation measurement posts are maintaining, showed that the gamma
ray radiation makes from 12 to 18 micro-roentgens per hour with the normal
level at up to 30 micro-roentgens," the source said.
The radiation meters registered the radiation level at 13
micro-roentgens in Khabarovsk and Magadan, and the radiation level is also
twice lower than the normal level in the Amur Region, the Jewish
Autonomous Region and Yakutia.
The Japanese authorities reported that the plutonium traces were found
after a radiation ground leakage from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.
The traces of radioactive agents were found in the tap water, vegetables,
milk and beef from the Fukushima Prefecture. The sale of food products
from Fukushima is banned.
The Russian Far Eastern branches of the Russian consumer rights
watchdog are making laboratory tests of food products, the samples of
atmospheric precipitation, air and water. No excess level of radionuclides
was found. No radionuclides were found in the meat of migratory birds. The
shooting of birds continues for the controlling purposes and tests.
All vehicles, passengers and members of the crew on aircraft and
sea-going vessels and the commodities supplied from Japan are passing the
radiation control.
The hotlines are operating in the regional branches of the Russian
consumer rights watchdog and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The
urgent online reports on the radiation situation are posted on the
websites of the emergencies departments and on the information screens in
the cities of Russian Far East.
