Expert: the parliament cannot endorse the claims agreement

Baghdad (NINA) - Legal expert, Salim Hawas Al Saadi, said the parliament is not entitled to ratify the settlement of U.S. claims agreement.

He added, in a statement to NINA on Sunday "the pretext of believing in future claims against Iraq is false and does not based on any legal basis, because the mere assumptions or threats do not justify the accelerated payment of the price without a sentence of non-appeal decision."

He wondered "who says that the Americans will win the proceedings as soon as they press charges, and if there were decisions issued, then, where is the Iraqi government from all of this? Why there was not a similar principle to the Iraqi victims? that is the task of the legal committee in the parliament."

He continued "it was worthwhile in the first place to form a group, composed of legal experts, jurists and lawyers, away from quotas, in a professional way, to follow up on this file and to address the claims and prepare legal defenses before the surrender and pay the money quickly."
