Thai government insists on fighting Preah Vihear case at World Court
BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced on Sunday that his government will ask the Thai Cabinet at its next weekly meeting on May 3 to set up a committee to handle a case related to the Preah Vihear Temple at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague--which was recently filed by Cambodia.
During the last episode of his weekly talk program, “Confidence in Thailand with Premier Abhisit”, the Thai leader acknowledged that border clashes between Thai and Cambodian soldiers have continued over the past week despite local approaches for a truce.
Abhisit said, however, that he sees a positive sign from the border situation, as soldiers did not use heavy weapons lately. Yet, the Thai forces have remained watchful; while staying on their same locations without making any retreat.
Meanwhile, updated reports said that crossfire between Thai and Cambodian border troops resumed overnight, from about 9pm Saturday night to 4am Sunday morning. There have been no reports on new casualties or damage.(TNA)
