Extradited man in court over NSW murders

SYDNEY (AAP) - A 65-year-old man extradited from Italy has appeared in a Sydney court charged with the stabbing murders of two brothers in Sydney's inner-west two years ago.
Detectives attached to the State Crime Commands Homicide Squad flew to Rome on April 25 where they met with local Italian police and Interpol officers and arrested Giuseppe Di Cianni.
The detectives arrived at Sydney's International Airport with Di Cianni on Saturday night and he was taken to the Sydney Police Centre and charged with two counts of murder.
He appeared at Parramatta Bail Court by video link on Sunday and was remanded to appear in court again on Tuesday.
The charges relate to the murder of Di Cianni's business associates 56-year-old Albert Frisoli and his brother Mario, 52, whose bodies were found with stab wounds on May 7, 2009 in a Rozelle home.
Di Cianni had been arrested in Cosenza, in southern Italy, by Italian police last August.
NSW homicide squad commander Detective Superintendent Peter Cotter said Di Cianni was looking frail.
"He has certainly aged in the last couple of years," Det Supt Cotter told reporters.
He added that police were still investigating whether someone helped Di Cianni after the alleged murders.
"We still have a belief that there might have been somebody assisting this man post the event, and we're obviously trying to build up sufficient evidence," he said.
