Radiation remains within normal levels in Russia's Far East
VLADIVOSTOK, May 1 (Itar-Tass) -- Background radiation ranging from 11
to 18 microroentgens an hour was recorded in the Far East on Sunday at
10:00 Khabarovsk time (03:00 Moscow time). No exceeded levels were
recorded anywhere, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry's Far
Eastern regional centre reports.
Round-the-clock monitoring of the radiation situation is conducted by
specialists of the Far Eastern department of the Hydro-Meteorological
Service, the federal public health control service Rospotrebnadzor and
emergency services of military units. Radiation measurements are taken at
630 fixed and mobile stations.
Monitoring in the air at various altitudes is continued by helicopters
of the Emergencies Ministry's Air Rescue Centre and other services. In sea
waters, measurements are made by the research vessel Pavel Gordiyenko and
border patrol ships.
The operational headquarters at the Far Eastern regional centre for
emergencies continues working to collect and analyze the incoming
information on the situation in the region. Cooperation is organised with
the regional offices of Roshydromet, Rosatom, Rospotrebnadzor, the RAS
Geophysical Service and other ministries and departments, as well as the
Consulate General of Japan in Khabarovsk
