Moscow public transport to be free for all visiting WWII veterans

MOSCOW, May 1 (Itar-Tass) -- Veterans who arrive in Moscow to
celebrate the 66th anniversary of Victory Day will use public transport
free of charge from May 1 to 15. Free bus, trolleybus, tram and metro
services will be provided for all former WWII soldiers for the period, an
official at the mayor's office told Itar-Tass.
In the metro, it is enough for veterans only to show their identity
cards to go through the turnstile, but for ground transport, they will
need to have special passes.
"For veterans to travel by ground public transport, special
complimentary pass cards are issued for unlimited traveling for the period
from May 1 to 15, 2011," a city transport agency official said. It will be
possible to take such a card at any place where transport tickets are sold
as well as at all the railway stations and airports - Vnukovo, Domodedovo,
Sheremetyevo 1, Sheremetyevo 2 and Sheremetyevo 3. It will be announced
there when trains and planes arrive.
Veterans who for one or another reason can not obtain a travel ticket
in the booths will get it from drivers after presenting the WWII veteran
identity card. All drivers of passenger transport will have such tickets.
The passes will be given to veterans beginning this Sunday.
