Sochi airport closed due to heavy fog
SOCHI, May 1 (Itar-Tass) -- More than 1,200 passengers are waiting for
the departure at Sochi airport closed because of fog.
A total of 20 flights were cancelled on Saturday due to the bad
weather conditions, a source of the Basel Aero company operating southern
airports told Itar-Tass.
Some passengers flew out for the destinations from Krasnodar airport,
where they had been carried by buses.
There are passengers in the terminal building who are waiting for the
arrival of liners that landed at other airports, including those bound for
Belgrade and Tashkent.
According to Basel Aero press secretary Olesya Yeryomina, the flights
are canceled tentatively until 06:00 Moscow time, May 1.
The air companies accommodate their passengers in hotels.
Because of the heavy fog, Sochi's airport since 11:00 Moscow time on
Saturday worked "according to the actual weather" when pilots themselves
decide on the takeoff and landing.
A total of more than 2,000 people did not depart in time due to the
cancellation of flights.
