Clashes with police in Syria claim lives of 48 protesters
BEIRUT, April 30 (Itar-Tass) -- In Syria, clashes with police on
Friday claimed the lives of 48 participants in antigovernment
demonstrations, local human rights organizations said.
Mass rallies were held in the suburbs of Damascus - Draie and Sebka,
as well as the industrial center of Homs (165 kilometers north of the
capital), and the port city of Baniyas. In Slaib and Dera'a police opened
fire on crowds of young people near mosques.
