Army ready to stop fighting, if all parties agree to truce-Gaddafi
CAIRO, April 30 (Itar-Tass) -- The army is prepared to stop combat
operations, however, on the condition all parties agree to truce, Libyan
leader Muamar Gaddafi said live on government television.
"The decision on a ceasefire should not be unilateral," he said. "We
were the first to welcome such a move and to approved it, but attacks by
NATO are still continuing."
Earlier this month, Gaddafi agreed to the African Union-proposed "road
map" for a Libyan settlement that provides for an immediate ceasefire, the
delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians, as well as a political
dialogue and the beginning of a transitional period in the country to
prepare for the elections to democratic institutions.
In the same television broadcast Gaddafi also said that he would not
leave the country.
"I'm not going to leave my country. No one can force me to stop
defending my native state," he said.
