Queensland Reds add six new faces
SYDNEY (AAP) Code-jumper Will Chambers' eight-week stint on the Super Rugby fringes will end on Saturday night when a revamped Queensland take on the Hurricanes in Wellington.
Chambers is one of six changes to the Reds starting 15 that ended a seven-year drought against NSW last weekend with a 19-15 win.
Now coach Ewen McKenzie has chosen to freshen up his pace-setting squad for the trip across the Tasman.
On top of facial injuries to prop Ben Daley and winger Digby Ioane, McKenzie has made four unforced changes for the Westpac Stadium clash - Queensland's first against a Kiwi opponent this season.
The Faingaa twins, Anthony and Saia, back-rower Radike Samo and Wallabies lock Rob Simmons have all been rotated onto the bench.
Former Melbourne Storm NRL three-quarter Chambers gets his shot for some redemption after being dumped following a disappointing start to the season as the Reds battled to click into gear in the first three rounds.
Anthony Faingaa, Ben Tapuai and Digby Ioane were all preferred to Chambers at No.13, as Queensland went on a seven-match winning streak.
Faingaa makes way for the former Storm three-quarter at outside centre where Chambers ended last season as one of the country's form No.13s and played for the Australian Barbarians.
Twenty-year-old Dom Shipperley will make his Super Rugby debut by filling the boots of Test winger Ioane, who has been a standout, in the other backline change.
In the pack, James Hanson will make his second start of the season at hooker, Adam Wallace-Harrison replaces Samo at blind-side flanker and veteran lock Van Humphries returns in the second-row for his 50th Reds match.
Former Wallabies prop Greg Holmes has also been promoted from the bench to replace Daley.
"New Zealand teams play a different style of rugby and offer different challenges to what we have previously faced and its important we adapt to this with our selections," McKenzie said.
"I've stressed all year the importance of using your 22 and our bench on Saturday has the ability to change the dynamics of the game.
"This week we are giving some starting opportunities to some of the guys who did a great job finishing the game last week."
Reds: Ben Lucas, Luke Morahan, Will Chambers, Mike Harris, Dom Shipperley, Quade Cooper, Will Genia; Scott Higginbotham, Beau Robinson, Adam Wallace-Harrison, James Horwill (capt), Van Humphries, Guy Shepherdson, James Hanson, Greg Holmes. Res: Saia Faingaa, Albert Anae, Rob Simmons, Radike Samo, Liam Gill, Anthony Faingaa, Kimami Sitauti.
