Ceasefire is reached: Thai army chief

BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) - Thai Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha confirmed Thursday afternoon that a ceasefire along the Thai-Cambodian border is now effectively underway--after talks between Thai and Cambodian military commanders in the morning.

General Prayuth acknowledged that the agreed ceasefire has begun following talks between regional commanders of the two sides, and that Commanding General of Thailand's 2nd Army Area Command Lieutenant General Tawatchai Samutsakhon would meet and hold talks with Cambodia's 5th Army Region commander Lieutenant General Chea Mon on Friday if there was no more fighting in the meantime.

Thai Government Spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn also confirmed the agreed ceasefire, saying that border checkpoints will soon be re-opened and villagers will be returning home from temporary shelters. (TNA)
