Thai Chamber of Commerce continues promoting investment in Cambodia

BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) - The Thai Chamber of Commerce reported on Thursday that Thai entrepreneurs have continued to do businesses with their Cambodian counterparts and in Cambodia as usual, as they have separated their businesses from border problems.
Dusit Nontanakorn, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said that border and sovereignty issues are the responsibility of the Thai military; while cross border businesses have to go on.
Dusit acknowledged that the closure of two border passes with Cambodia has some impacts on border trade, but cooperation between the two countries' business sector needs to carry on to pave the way for the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015, and that Thailand and Cambodia have not ended any cooperative deal and he hoped their border rows would soon end.
Niyom Wairatchapanich, who heads the Thai Chamber of Commerce's border trade committee, said that the Thai Chamber of Commerce has also continued promoting investment in Cambodia and plans to organize meetings and seminars in Cambodia from August to September this year to further explore investment opportunities in the neighbouring country, as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is forming the ASEAN Economic Community over the next five years.
Regarding domestic aspects of the Thai economy, the Thai Chamber of Commerce called on the Thai government to gradually float oil prices from next month so that people and the local private sector realize the necessity of energy-saving and adjust themselves to the market prices of oil. The Thai Chamber of Commerce also expressed its support for the government’s wage hike policy, but urging the simultaneous improvement of local workers’ skills and potential. (TNA)
