Meeting of SCO interior ministers opens in Astana

ASTANA, April 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Law enforcement organizations of the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should continue building up
cooperation in the fight with crime taking into account present-day
challenges and threats, SCO General Secretary Muratbek Imanaliyev said
opening a meeting of the SCO interior and public security ministers on
Thursday.
He pointed to the fact that the meeting is being held on the threshold
of the CSO 10th anniversary. "At present, the strengthening of cooperation
in combating illegal drug trafficking, illegal migration and organized
crime is acquiring ever more importance," Imanaliyev said. "All SCO
countries are encountering with these threats today. We accumulated
positive experience of cooperation in this sphere, there are good results
of work, and effective bilateral interaction, which should be developed,
was established."
Besides, as Imanaliyev stressed, "good prerequisites for disclosing
and investigating crimes in the sphere of high technologies were created."
Issues of combating cybercrime will also be considered at the meeting.
The organization's general secretary stressed that the SCO
member-countries should continue building up efforts in the fight with
crime in all directions and expressed confidence that the decision adopted
on Thursday "will give an additional impetus to the development of
cooperation in the law enforcement sphere.
