Thai-Cambodian border clashes continue to 7th day

BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) - Crossfire between Thai and Cambodian troops has continued into its 7th day on Thursday, with 15 soldiers of both sides having reportedly been killed in the latest border clashes, which erupted last Friday, six of them were Thai troops; while more than 20 others have been wounded and thousands of affected villagers have fled to temporary shelters.

Royal Thai Army Spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that exchanges of gunfire between Thai and Cambodian troops at a border area near the Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom Temple adjacent to Phnom Dongrak District of Thailand's northeastern Surin Provinve broke out overnight and continued on Thursday.

Thailand's 2nd Army Area Command later reported that another Thai soldier was confirmed killed in Wednesday night's clashes, bringing the total death toll of Thai troops to six. The last six days of border clashes have reportedly killed eight Cambodian and five Thai soldiers and a Thai civilian.

More than 20 soldiers of both sides have reportedly been injured since April 22. But Colonel Prawit Hukaew said that the exact number of injured soldiers could not be confirmed at the moment. (TNA)
