Putin to attend WHO's conference on healthy lifestyles in Moscow

MOSCOW, April 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin
on Thursday will take part in the first global ministerial conference on
healthy lifestyles and noncommunicable disease (NCD) control held under
the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO), the government's
press service reports.
The conference will be attended by delegates from 160 WHO member
countries, including 89 health ministers of such nations as the United
States, Germany, India, Belgium, Mexico, and others, as well as
representatives from specialized international organizations of the United
Nations, the World Banks.
Russian Minister of Health and Social Development Tatiana Golikova and
WHO Director-General Margaret Chan will deliver reports.
The conference is a key milestone in the international campaign to
curb the impacts of cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and chronic
lung diseases. It is jointly organized by the Russian Federation and WHO,
and takes place on April 28-29, 2011 in Moscow.
The conference is expected to discuss ways to promote healthy
lifestyle in society, state regulation measures in the areas of
advertising and sales of alcoholic drinks and tobaccos, of protection from
risk factors. Participants in the conference will exchange experience on
NCD prevention and control.
The conference's agenda include three plenary sessions, and 12
roundtable meetings on such subjects as anti-alcohol and anti-tobacco
efforts, balanced diet, physical activity and grass-roots sports,
monitoring of non-infectious diseases, including of cardiovascular
diseases, financing of the health sector, innovation technologies in
treating NCDs, etc.
The conference is being held in the lead up to the United Nations
General Assembly High-level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of
Noncommunicable Diseases on September 19-20, 2011.
