AGO AWAITING PRESIDENT'S PERMIT TO INVESTIGATE BENGKULU GOVERNOR

Jakarta, Sept 2 (ANTARA) - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) confirmed it has named Bengkulu Governor Agusrin Maryono Najamuddin a suspect in the embezzlement of property tax and fees on land and building titles.

"True, he has been named a suspect since last week," Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Marwan Effendy said here on Tuesday.

Marwan said Prosecutor Faried Haryanto was conducting an investigation into the case.

He said the AGO would soon send a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asking for a permit to investigate Marwan.

The investigating team has so far named the head of the Bengkulu Provincial Revenue Office, Drs Chairuddin, a suspect in the graft case that inflicted Rp21.3 billion in losses on the state.

"I reported all the expenditures to the governor who was responsible for managing the money. And I myself used the money because I performed my duties as a subordinate," he said.

He said since his appointment as head of the provincial administration's revenue office, he was summoned to the governor's office or residence to attend meetings almost every day.
