No instruction from RF prez to initiate UNSC meeting-aide
MOSCOW, April 27 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev did not issue
instructions so far to initiate the convocation of a United Nations
Security Council (UNSC) extraordinary meeting on Libya, presidential aide
Sergei Prikhodko said.
In response to journalists' question about the possibility of
convening an extraordinary meeting of the UNSC at Libya's request,
Prikhodko said, in part: "By now, the (Russian) President did not give
instructions to initiate a UNSC extraordinary meeting on Libya".
Libya applied to Russia on April 26 in a request for the convocation
of a UNSC extraordinary meeting to discuss NATO's ongoing miltiary
operation against the country.
The government news agency JANA reported that the country's
authorities had sent "an official enquiry to Moscow in a request for the
convocation of a UNSC special meeting to discuss the crusaders' ongoing
aggression, within the scope of which civilian facilities of Jamahiriyah
are bombarded and (also discuss) the attempt at doing away with Muammar
Gaddafi. Those actions run counter to UNSC resolutions and violate the
principles of international law".
