MONGOLIA SIGNS MULTI-LATERAL AGREEMENT

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ Working in the New York city, USA, the State Secretary of Mongolia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar signed Monday a multi-lateral agreement on the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries (ITTLDC). By doing so, Mongolia has become the first ever country to ink the agreement on the international-status organization to be located in Ulaanbaatar being established at its own initiative.
The agreement has purposes to improve skills of the landlocked countries in conducting researches and to regulate the rights and responsibilities of international organizations focused on working out policy recommendations for the landlocked countries.
The same day, the State Secretary met Mr. Cheick Sidi Diarra, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OSAA/OHRLLS). The State Secretary has introduced to Mr. Diarra results of the High-level Asia-Pacific Policy Dialogue on the Implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action and other Development Gaps faced by the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) held April 12-14, 2011 in Ulaanbaatar, and its documents. Then they have shared views on the related collaboration, and agreed in principle to organize a visit of Mr. Diarra in the second half of this year for rendering support to the ITTLDC's activities.
Mr. Tsogtbaatar has met Mr. Kiyotaka Akasaka, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information. They have discussed some measures to be co-organized by Mongolia and the UN on occasion of the 50th anniversary of Mongolia's joining the UN. Moreover, Tsogtbaatar exchanged views with Ronald Rich, an executive head of the UN Democracy Fund; Park In Kook, the permanent representative of the Republic of Korea; and George Soros, a leader of the Soros Foundation.
