Fourth contracting round of 12 oil and gas sites launched

Baghdad (NINA) – Petroleum Contracts Department in Oil Ministry launched the fourth contracting round on Monday.

Minister of Oil, Abdul Kareem Luaibi, said “the fourth round is a completion of the ministry’s achievements in the past two years; it aims at developing oil and gas fields and increase their production.”

“This process could exhaust the oil and gas reserve, therefore, the ministry though to concentrate on increasing the Iraqi oil and gas reserve during the coming years,” he added.

The minister went on saying, during opening the round “the fourth round includes excavating and development of 12 sites that would increase Iraq’s oil reserve greatly,” pointing out that “the excavation includes Nineveh, Anbar, Babylon, Najaf, Muthanna, Thi Qar, and Wasit provinces, the hydrocarbon potentials of these sites refer that they are oil and gas sites.”

Luaibi clarified that the “companies participating in these rounds are the eligible companies of the first, second, and third rounds in addition to the companies that will be eligible in the new round until May 19.”
