Ice hockey veteran to head school of art, culture and sport

VLADIVOSTOK, April 25 (Itar-Tass) -- World famous ice hockey veteran
Vyacheslav Fetisov will become chairman of the board of trustees of a new
school of art, culture and sports based at Far Eastern Federal University
(DVFU).
Other prominent figures in art, culture and sports, who are well-known
to the world, were also invited to join the board for purposes of
development of education in the Far East in fields new to the region.
University rector Vladimir Miklushevsky said that DVFU would pay great
attention to the development of sport. "We will continue the traditions of
raising athletes and athletes with an international degree in sport which
were created by the institutes incorporated in Far Eastern Federal
University. We are hoping to continue the education in sport on a higher
level thanks to Vyacheslav Fetisov's support," the rector told Itar-Tass.
Far Eastern Federal University was created in October 2010. It will
also incorporate the Far Eastern State Technical University, the Pacific
State Economic University, and the Ussuriysk Pedagogical Institute. The
process of their unification into a single DVFU structure with
engineering, medical and other departments is nearing completion.
This year students will be taught on the premises of four buildings of
the former institutes incorporated into DVFU. In 2012 after the APEC
summit the tuition will be held at a university campus on Russky Island,
where the construction of new DVFU premises is under way. By the year
2025 the number of university students who will arrive there from all over
the Far East is planned to reach 50,000.
