Radiation background on Russia's Sakhalin within natural levels

VLADIVOSTOK, April 25 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Far Eastern Sakhalin
region reports no increases in the radiation background on Monday, weeks
after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.
According to the Sakhalin meteorological administration, as of 09:00
a.m. local time (02:00 a.m. Moscow time), no deviations from the norm were
reported in either of the region's districts, including on the Kuril
Islands. The radiation background in the area ranged from seven to 12
microroentgen per hour, which is below the permissible level of 30
microroentgen.
The situation is constantly monitored by 99 stationary and mobile
radiation control stations, including onboard coastal guard ships. The
crisis management centre of the Sakhalin region receives data on the
radiation background every two hours. There is no threat for the local
population.
