Gen Makarov to attend meeting of SCO chiefs of general staff in

MOSCOW, April 25 (Itar-Tass) -- Chief of General Staff of the Russian
Armed Forces, Army General Nikolai Makarov, on Monday will attend a
meeting of chiefs of general staffs of the countries of the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO), which will be held in China's Shanghai, a
spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry told Itar-Tass.
The meeting will be dedicated to the SCO tenth anniversary to be
marked on June 15.
"It is planned that the participants in the meeting will discuss the
current state and prospects for further military cooperation within the
organization, as well as key issues of national and international
security, maintaining peace and stability in the Central Asian region,"
the spokesman said. "General Makarov's program also includes a visit to an
attack aviation division of China's air force to familiarize himself with
the infrastructure, material and technical base and training organization."
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes Russia, China,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, India, Iran,
and Pakistan enjoy the status of observers.
Makarov arrived in China on Sunday and will leave home on April 26.
