Jakarta, Sept 1 (ANTARA) - The Indonensian Navy has detained two Singaporean-flagged barges for illegaly entering Indonesian waters near Batu Ampar in Riau Islands province, a spokesman said.
"The two barges, named Samwoh Pride and Samwoh Glory, were intercepted in Batu Ampar waters last Thursday night (Aug 28)," chief of the Navy's information service Commodore Iskandar Sitompul said here Monday.
They were captured with 3,776 tons of granite rocks from Tanjung Balai Karimun on board but without the required documents, he said.
Mewanhile, the commmander of the Batam naval base, Col M Faisal, said the process of the two foreign barges' capture began when a naval patrol noticed one of them colliding with a buoy in Batu Ampas waters.
The patrol immediately approached the 1410-GT and 1482-GT vessels which proved to be carrying 3.776 tons of granite rocks worth Rp8 billion while the buoy was damaged and had moved 200 meters from its previous position.
The crew of the two barges also were not able to show the official documents needed to transport granite out of Indonesian territory.
"The two barges are now still being held at the Batam naval base for further investigation," Col Faisal said.
