Iran's naval hovercrafts equipped with long-range missile systems

TEHRAN, April 24 (MNA) – The deputy Navy commander announced on Saturday that naval hovercrafts have been equipped with long-range surface-to-surface missiles.

“For the first time, missile systems were installed on the Navy’s hovercrafts,” Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi said.“Iran is the only country in the world that has equipped its naval hovercrafts with long-range surface-to-surface missiles.”

This innovation will increase the mobility and maneuverability of naval units because hovercrafts are fast vehicles and can operate in shallow waters.

“In addition, enemies can’t easily track them down,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mousavi said that Iranian engineers have designed and manufactured hovercrafts which can transport troops, but domestically manufactured hovercrafts can not be used for combat missions yet.

Iranian experts are trying to adapt these aircrafts for combat missions, he added.
