Iran critical of West on popular uprisings

TEHRAN, April 24 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has criticized the West for its double-standard policy on the ongoing developments in the Middle East and North Africa, especially its unfair and contradictory approach toward Bahrain.

Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro in Tehran on Friday.

Salehi urged the international community to pay due attention to “the regional realities.”

He also called for an immediate halt to the killing of defenseless people and the foreign countries’ military intervention in the regional countries’ internal affairs.

On the Tehran-Caracas relationship, the Iranian foreign minister said, “Iran and Venezuela, as two important countries in the Middle East and Latin America, can certainly complement each other.”

Pointing to the close cooperation between the two countries at the international organizations, he said that Iran-Venezuela cooperation on the international stage can pave the way for the participation of other developing countries in dealing with the issues facing the international community.

Maduro commented on the political developments in the Middle East and North Africa, saying the hegemonistic powers’ interventionist policy is a strategy to take complete control of the regional countries’ natural resources and oil reserves.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister also called for diplomatic efforts with the aim of pushing the international organizations to take action to stop violent suppression of protesters in the crisis-hit countries.
