BABEL'S EXPORTS REACH 299.6 MILLION US DOLLARS

Pangkalpinang,Sept 1 (ANTARA)- The exports of Babel (Bangka Belitung islands province), Indonesia, in May 2008 reached 299.6 million US dollars, up 69.72 percent compared to 176.5 million US dollars in April 2008.

"The total exports in the January-May 2008 period also increased from 510.7 million US dollars to 1,213.8 million US dollars, up 137.66 percent compared to that in last year's same period," Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Babel chapter, Syafril Said said in Pangkalpinang on Monday. He also said that Indonesia's May 2008 exports to Singapore reached 152.6 million US dollars, which was a decline of 0.66 percent compared to the 152.7 percent in April 2008.

"While Babel's tin exports in the January-May 2008 period increased 171.90 percent compared to the 350.7 million dollars in last year's same period, namely from 350.7 million dollars to 953.5 million US dollars," he said.

He added that in the January-May 2008 period the exports of all commodities had increased significantly, such as tin ore and metal residue, by 608.75 percent compared to the same period of 2007 from 1.8 million dollars to 12.7 million dollars.
"The increase was also followed by other commodities like coffee, tea, spices, oil and animal and vegetable fats, in addition to salt, sulphur, even soil and rocks. fish and rubber goods," he said.

Indonesia's non-tin exports to Australia in the January-May 2008 period reached 68.5 million US dollars, accounting for 26.32 percent of Indonesia's total non-tin exports, followed by Singapore with 66.7 million dollars (25.61 percent), Japan 24.5 million dollars (9.42 percent), Malaysia 21.6 million dollars (8.29 percent), China 19.3 million dollars (7.40 percent), India 13.2 million dollars (5.08 percent), vietnam 11.1 million dollars (4.26 percent) and Pakistan 10.4 million dollars 4,00 percent)," he said..***
