RI, BRUNEI NAVIES AGREE TO ENHANCE COOPERATION
Jakarta, Sept 1 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian and Brunei navies have agreed to enhance cooperation in education and training.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between Indonesian Naval Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno and Brunei Defense Attache Lt Col Pangiran Hapiz bin Pangiran Haji Kamaldin here on Monday.
The two neighboring nations signed a memorandum of understanding in 1999 to enhance defense cooperation.
"Under the MoU, the two nations have since engaged in a number of defense cooperation including exchange of armed force officers' visits and joint excises between the two armed forces," Head of the Indonesian Navy Headquarters' Information Service Commodore Iskandar Sitompul said.
In addition, the two navies had also organized joint exercise code-named "Helang Laut" every year, he said.
